where to purchase graphite for anode?

Thanks MD and Jeffrey!

MD -- I found them also yesterday and bought 3 =)

Now need to get a manual charger -- not an easy task because no one will ship them to California, and all the ones in California are automatic (CEC regulations). May end up having to get an automatic and a battery...

Again, thanks for taking the time to respond!

Deb, a chance but a small seller on eBay with a used unit in Indiana does not know he can't ship it to CA. Nobody told me that in GA. Especially with a used one.

Or find a friend out of state that will buy the one you want, re-box it and send it to you. If they do good, pay them back.

Most model train sets run on DC. I haven't tried it, but I don't see why a model train transformer wouldn't work.

Ty, I think a train transformer would be ultra low amps or all our eyes would be larger now. As in much less than 1 amp which would be a very slow operation.

True for the newer ones made for smaller trains, but old Lionel transformers from the 70's and 80's put out DC current and run about 18 Volts in the 90~100W range. Not as good as a manual car charger but way more than 1 Amp. More like 4~5 Amps. I see them at antique stores all the time.

Good news! I ordered one from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts, and while I didn't think they would actually come through, given the CEC regulations, they did! I'm now the proud owner of a manual charger and can get my newly acquired Lodge #7 chicken fryer with high domed lid all cleaned up and seasoned =)

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Hi all, wondering about choice for anode. Is graphite superior. I have been using old broiler pan tops (see picture) found at local thrift for 99 cents. Works a dream, but, is it a bad idea?

I've never inserted an image, so don't know if this will work, but this is the pan I stumbled upon this week =)

Update: it didn't work, but it's a really pretty CI pan!

Not at all. Graphite just eliminates most of the issues, real or otherwise, that can be had with bare iron, steel, or stainless steel. It does erode over time as metal anodes do, but does not become coated and require constant cleaning to maintain efficiency.

Congrats on the manual charger. Those are among the best cheap & dirty e-tank power supplies out there. Those broiler tops are a heck of a lot better than what I'm currently using (rebar).
