A friend of my daughter brought a wood handle sauce pan for us to look at. She wants to get it cleaned up and start using it. If I put it in the etank and remove all the rust ect, can I put it in the oven to season it? I don't want to damage the handle or catch my oven on fire.
My "etank" is made using with a 5 gallon bucket. Could I hang the pan and only put enough water in the bucket to cover the pot part of the pan without getting the handle close?
What would be the best way to season the pan if not in an oven?

edit: After further investigation, I figured out that I could remove the handle.
