E-tank issue

I’ve always stripped my cast iron with just a lye bath. I have a large amount to restore so I set up an E-tank and used it for the first time yesterday. I was extremely happy with the results. This morning I tried to clean another pan and it’s not working. It appears that the gauge is showing charged which I don’t understand. The charger as far as I know is a manual charger and it did work perfectly the first time. Does anyone have any helpful ideas?

Wiggle your electrical connections. Maybe even drag the clamps across the steel plates to ensure contact with raw metal.

I'm assuming that one pan did not totally cover your anodes with rust.

Good luck.

Well I cleaned and checked and double checked everything and it still didn’t work. Then I noticed that when I plugged it in the needle would jump, so I plugged and unplugged it several times and it jumped to midrange and has been happily working ever since. I’m happy because I’ve got about a hundred pieces to restore and I hope the charger lasts for all of them.

I use a smart charger hooked up to a car battery so the e-tank actually runs off the battery and the charger keeps it charged

Okay here’s my advice, I scraped the battery charger and went with a DC Power Supply. I will never go back. I have cleaned dozens of skillets with the power supply and it works like a charm.
