Heat Ring and Smooth Top stove

The literature that came with my 3000 watt glass-top induction hot plate indicates that there can be no more than a 1.5 inch recess or space under the cooking utensil. That seems like a lot to me, but the diagram even shows a legged pot and a convex bottom pot. As long as the ferrous pot bottom is reasonably close to the glass top it should work. Keep in mind that enamel coated steel and iron cookware works great on induction, despite the layer of enamel that can be similar in thickness to the depth of a heat ring.
However even a thin layer of copper under a pot will disrupt the magnetic field and prevent you from making moonshine...

So both are and can be called a glass top. Not good. I bet most of the CI heat ring success stories are from the ceramic smooth glass tops where the glass itself gets hot.

Induction burners are usually called induction burners. When you pay for that kind of technology, you want people to know that you have it.
