I have cooked forever, but only recently using vintage cast iron. I do not have time to dig through thrift shops or estate sales. Where can I find a reputable seller on the internet? Thanks in advance for your help.
eBay would probably be your best choice if you know what to look for. There are some Etsy shops, but pieces found there are often at a premium price. To be a better informed buyer see: http://www.castironcollector.com/buying.php for thoughts on what to look out for.
If you're on Facebook, there are several cast iron groups there that sell, auction, accept offers, etc. Each one has slightly different rules for buying and selling, but from what I've seen the sellers are reputable and the admins of the groups run a pretty tight ship.
The Goodwill auction website is another place you might want to check out. The bidding gets too high for my liking on the Griswold and most Wagner cookware but unmarked Wagner, BSR, and Lodge can be had for a reasonable price.
Search for "cast iron cookware" or "cast iron skillet" on your local Craigslist. Sometimes you'll find something there. Also, I use an iPhone app called EstateSales.net. It shows the Estate sales in my area and includes pictures of what they have up for sale. However, it seems the cast iron goes within a few minutes the first day the sale opens, so you have to check it the night before and see if you see any cast iron in the pictures ... then get to the Estate sale 30 minutes or more before it opens.
