Help with a Teapot.

I am NEW to collecting and purchased this teapot.
I cannot find any information about it.
It has what I believe a gate mark on the bottom.
(Straight raised line across the bottom.)
It has an 8 on the spout by the handle.
The only markings are on the swivel lid and I cannot find any information about the marking.
I believe this to be old but I do not know if I found a jewel or a dud.
Should I try to clean this up or leave it as is?
Any help would be appreciated!
 
i have been looking at the teapot.
The bottom has three little feet and what I believe to be the gate mark.
I cannot tell if this is a natural seasoning or if it has been painted.
I still have not found any information about this piece of cast iron...
Is the one inch riser normal in teapots?

The feet to allow the pot to set without wobbling on the gate on a flat surface. The feature of this style of kettle's reduced diameter bottom is called a pit bottom. It allowed the kettle to sit down into a small diameter stove eye for rapid heating. Without maker markings, a positive ID is unlikely. If the center disk on the lid contains some kind of mark, the photo is not clear enough to make it out.
 
Doug, No markings that I can tell.
Someone told me this might be called a wagon wheel teapot...
Someone saw one on Pinterest like this and that is what they had it labeled as.
Not sure if that is correct or how they come by that name.
Should I try cleaning this in a lye bath?
Still tying to figure out if it is a jewel or a dud...

You have to consider how things circulate on the internet:
Person #1: "Kind of looks like a wagon wheel."
Person #2: "Someplace I read called it a 'wagon wheel' ".
Person #3: "That's known as a wagon wheel tea kettle."
Local TV feature reporter after a 5 minute web search: "Wagon Wheel tea kettles are highly sought after collectibles worth hundreds of dollars."

You get the idea.

I was skeptical from the git go.
I am more apt to believe what has been on here...
Gate mark = probably never knowing much information about it.
The teapot will sit on our hearth until I decide whether to put it in a lye bath...
As it stands right now...it looks just fine to me.
