Menard 1882 Dutch Oven, Montreal?

I have never seen a dutch oven with a flared rim like this one has. It almost looks like it was meant to hang down inside the stove from the top. Also, very interesting handles, maybe missing the wood?

I have searched and can't find anything on the maker, Menard & C(I)e, Montreal. (Seller listed it as Cie, but I can't quite make it out on the lid) Can anyone shed some light on this style pot for me?

We can speculate, but this piece doesn't show up in any of the resources I have. The CL listing is gone. If the diameter was less than about 10 inches, the stove eye drop-in theory might be plausible, although it looks more like an oddball camp oven to me, the flanged lid suggesting the holding of hot coals. Of course, one would have to assume the lid and pot were made to go together for that to be the case.
